Let’s work
The idea was on the table but now everything had to get in shape. The whole team participated in the recruitment process but Greta and Vainius Gabalis, CMO of Codyfight, were especially involved in this early stage. While Greta manifested that her experience with testers was overall positive, in Vainius’ case it was more challenging;
“For me it was a very challenging process to reach out to developers. It was a tricky situation because we wanted to on board the right people with some experience in their backs to provide us with the best feedback. We have been able to get a few testers but we are still in the hunt for more developers. Don’t be shy to join!”
Codyfight’s motivation is unstoppable. Vainius is very positive about the future. Codyfight is constantly working to be the best version of themselves, and the team is eager to follow the optimism that the project emanates.
MVP participants were gathered in Discord so they could openly communicate with the Codyfight team and use the channel as a tool to provide feedback, report bugs and overall share their gameplay experience.
But the challenges were not over for Codyfight. While MVP testers started playing on the early version of the game, the development team was working over time to develop an updated version of the Widget that testers could switch to and have better graphics, less bugs and a greater experience.
This second stage was probably the hardest for the development team and I connected with the head of the department, Danas Girdauskas, to know how this over-time process came true and what was the experience like inside their team,
“It was a test for us, an experience to finally know what the process of 2 years came to. We needed a release and to test the long term project. Our team worked nonstop to make a functional Widget and we were constantly challenged with tweaks, bugs, and features that needed to be improved. And all of this happened while our second Widget was being developed”.
As explained by Danas, the second Widget is currently being developed and promises to not be an embryo anymore but a baby, the previous stage of the adulthood of Codyfight,
“Our second Widget is much different, something we can be proud of. It is sad that we cannot showcase that version right now to testers. It is definitely a challenge to maintain the two Widgets, mentally and physically. We need to constantly go back to tweak the old Widget while we build the current one with a completely new mindset”.
In addition, the MVP program had another issue that put in the spotlight Danas and his guys,
“Well, our targeted audience for the program are developers. So there is an extra pressure to have everything functioning smoothly in the game. They are not average players, they are more sensible to notice things that are often overlooked, especially technically speaking. They are easily scared away if a product is not developed right.”
The team definitely struggled with “developing right” as when MVP testers started to play, more and more issues were brought to light and served as a learning curve for the future Alpha version that promises to be a change of paradigm in many aspects;
“We understand the game is very attractive but needs more work in the gameplay area. All this time we were focusing on the infrastructure and how to connect the tiles, NPCs, features, etc, and now we are focusing more on the enjoyment aspect of the game. While developers will have fun building their bot farms and deploying them, casual players need more incentives to play. Now we know this was lacking and we are focusing on this aspect in our new Widget. We are already implementing updated features to resolve this issue with Codyfighter skills, a renovation of landing pages, etc.”
Once the process was sailing, it was time to check on the testers and their feedback on the project. However, that will be covered in part 3. Stay tuned on our socials to find out the finale of the MVP program and how everything played out in the end!
