Codyfight has embarked on a project over the past months that can be considered their new golden age. The project symbolizes the start of a new future for the enterprise that helps to establish itself as the innovative GameFi start-up they strive to be.

The project was baptized as MVP and got every department involved and working around the clock to make it happen. Many weeks of preparation and struggles created the embryo of Codyfight, setting a clear roadmap and the payoff of 2 years in the making.

The progress of the program led to the realization that there was a clear path to walk towards, one goal shared among the team, a passion to make things happen, and especially the creation of a strong identity they could communicate to the world.

But let’s start from the beginning, an evening in between spring and summer. The project was launched on the 31st of May with high expectations and optimism for the team.

How will the process go? Will MVP testers enjoy the game? What will the outlook of this program bring for Codyfight?

Back then, everything was still mysterious terrain but now there are answers to those questions and this article dissects and tells the tale of MVP, exactly as it went down for the team. It will be featured on a three part series that will discuss the process from the beginning until its current state. The following article responds to the creation of the idea and the early stage of developing the process.

The awakening

MVP stands for Minimal Valuable Product. It is a term that responds to the testing of a game in its very early stage. Therefore, an exclusive batch of players will have the chance to play the embryo of a game, giving it their honest feedback. The aftermath of such a process results in applying tester’s suggestions to the game and slowly expanding on them. The main goal is to achieve some valuable feedback to produce a high quality Alpha version, that is not only playable but also enjoyable, and that looks and functions in a polished way.

Codyfight’s MVP started developing as the team reached for a solution during the early phases of the bear market. Andrius, Codyfight’s CEO, explained that the project came as a breeze of fresh air for his team,

“We have been working on development for almost 2 years. We trust in our project and wanted to have everything ready as soon as possible. But we sort of hit a wall with the bear market. We needed a solution because our game was ready to be played. So we came up with the MVP project to test out the game and develop it to its best capacity while the market improves”.

Codyfight’s team started their preparations to launch that embryo that will eventually turn into a full human. According to Andrius, the game looks and feels “minimalistic”, but the plan of this GameFi enterprise is to develop the Alpha version as the MVP is running. In fact, players that participate on the project will witness the slow shift from a minimalistic game to a powerful and refined one. It feels somehow as a new era is starting for Andrius as his team, because MVP is just the first stage of what a complete project will look like,

“MVP testing is on a very minimalist Widget. But as we speak, a new Widget is being developed as well as new features like Special tiles, NPCs, Codyfighter skills, etc. Also the design and blockchain aspect is being integrated so when the Alpha version is launched, we will have a good product to showcase. It is all part of the game design process”.

Codyfight is hoping that MVP will serve as an early tool to identify what works and what doesn’t with their targeted audience. The project also comes as a strong motivation for the team as testing their long-term work is a challenge to improve and develop a game that players’ want to come back to.

The process

  1. The idea

The MVP project came as a rather spontaneous affair, at least in the terms of Greta Helander, COO of Codyfight,

“Everything started within a team, the game was functional so everyone was joining from time to time to look around and test some features but it was missing the main factor of the game — competition. So we decided to organize a small tournament. Then we realized how much more input we received and how much motivation it gave to everyone to improve, so we decided to go outside our inner circle to improve the game and gain some knowledge of what worked among an external community”.

So out of a very spontaneous idea, the team started working on one of the most important projects of the company. It was certainly challenging, because once the process started, there was a lot in line; developing an early functioning gameplay Widget, pitching to testers and involving them on the project, and especially being prepared to hear feedback and suggestions that were not considered when the game was being developed.

During the early preparations of the game Andrius and his team were eager to launch MVP but also worried about the feedback of that external community. At the end of the day there was a lot of work and excitement for the project, and therefore, a burning desire that testers would enjoy the game as much as they did developing it. Greta expresses that burning desire but also the obstacles in the team’s preparations,

“The team was very motivated but MVP came as a very fast and spontaneous idea. There was a lot of work involved and we had to contact a lot of testers. The process was difficult but rewarding. We have never done this before, so it was a challenge to adapt to new circumstances. In the end, I think it was worth it”.

And it was definitely worth it, but you’ll have to wait for the following week to find out.

In the next chapter, we will explore how the idea of MVP was developed and brought to action. Until then, you can follow us on our social media and stay updated with our events and new content. Have your eyes wide open as our new website is about to launch!
